NAME& TEAM STRUCTURE
2 Gents 2 Ladies
COMPETITION MATCHES
8 Sets per match consisting of 2 gents doubles – 2 ladies doubles and 4 mixed doubles.
GENTS: Each gent to play 2 gents doubles & 2 mixed doubles with the same partner. ie for mixed doubles once against each opposing pair.
LADIES: Each lady to play 2 ladies doubles & 2 mixed doubles with the
same partner. i.e for mixed doubles, once against each opposing
pair.
TYPES OF SETS
Short tie break set at 5 games all. When the score reaches 5 games all the team gaining 7 points wins (no advantage).
Sets won against sets lost, if sets are equal games won against games lost.
PRELIMINARY ROUNDS
Each competition shall consist of preliminary rounds as nominated in the
respective fixture sheet.
Competition matches shall not be played on the Saturday when they or the
following Monday is gazetted is a public holiday in the COUNTY OF CUMBERLAND.
COMPETITION FINALS
The four teams with the highest number of points at the completion of the
Preliminary rounds shall play in the finals.
SEMI-FINALS & FINALS
(A) 1st team v 4th team
(B) 2nd team v 3rd team
(C) winner (A) v winner (B)
THERE SHALL BE NO MINOR PREMIER
Should two or more teams be equal on points at the conclusion of the preliminary rounds, their relative positions shall be decided by the percentage of sets won over the total sets played. If the sets are equal then the percentage of games won over games played shall determine the relative positions. Sets or games awarded by forfeit shall not be included in the calculation.
In semi – finals & finals matches one player only from the same or lower division, not in finals matches, shall be permitted to play in matches subject to committee approval. Players must have played at least 1 match during the preliminary rounds & be of a similar or lower standard than the player being replaced. In 4 team divisions a player of similar or lower standard may be borrowed from a losing semi-final team with prior permission from the committee.
A pool player may play in semi-finals or finals with the sanction of the combined competition committee. A player will not be given permission if considered to be of a higher standard than the player being replaced.
The committee shall have the right to set down finals matches to be played on any court registered for the respective competition.
The opposing captains shall toss for the option of choosing whether their team will be the home or visiting team.
The captain of the winning team shall be responsible for forwarding the result form to the committee concerned.
Finals matches shall be played until a match winner is determined, at which time play is to cease. Match to play under lights if necessary. Should the result of the match reach sets all & games all then a short tie-break (first to 7) set is to be played by the pairs on the court in the last set to determine the winner of the match.
In FINALS matches 3 new balls are to be provided by the first mentioned team in the draw, the cost of which is to be shared by both teams.
If a match is stopped by the state of the weather before a decision is reached, it shall be resumed from the last completed point.
TROPHIES
A team cheque for $100.00 or trophies will be presented by the associations to the winning team only in each division.
ELIGIBILITY
Teams affiliated with participating associations may compete in the combined competition.
PLAYERS
A player shall not on any account be permitted to play in more than one competition in the one playing period in this or any other association except in unfinished matches set down for play by the committee.
Should a team no longer require the services of a player permission may be granted by the committee for that player to be registered with another team in any grade or division at the discretion of the committee
A written clearance must be obtained from the team with which the player was originally registered & such clearance is to be lodged with the competition secretary by 7.00pm on the Monday following the match.
ENTRIES
Unless otherwise stated, entries on the appropriate form must be forwarded by the team secretary to the committee concerned with the applicable fees for that competition.
There shall be no refund of entry fees once grading of competitions has been completed.
GRADING
Teams shall be allocated a grade or division in relation to the committee’s assessment of the teams playing ability.
Competition division winners are to be moved to the next highest division when possible.
A player once graded with a team shall not play in a lower grade or division except with the permission of the committee concerned. A team playing a player who infringes this rule shall forfeit the sets in which such a player played.
The committee shall have the right to place a team or player in any grade or division other than that to which entry is sought. The committee shall have the right to place any special playing conditions on any nominated team members, providing the team is notified prior to grading
MATCH RESULTS
The captain of the winning team is to supply certified results of each match on the form provided by the associations.
Where the winning team is in breach of the above rule the total points for the match shall be shared between the two teams who competed in the match.
The result form must be lodged at an association’s depot by 6.00pm on the Sunday immediately following the match or with the committee secretary no later than 4.00pm on the Monday following the match. Where the winning team is in breach of this rule the total points for the match shall be shared between the two teams who competed in the match.
Where there has been no play or a match is unfinished, a result form must be forwarded to the competition secretary by the captain of the home team.
Results of unfinished or postponed matches shall be forwarded by the captain of the home team to the competition secretary concerned.
PLAYING ORDER OF SETS
HOME team is to nominate players & serve first in the first set. Service then alternates between teams.
1st set to be mixed doubles. Home team nominates players.
2nd set to be mixed doubles. The remaining two pairs play in this set.
3rd set to be a gents doubles
4th set to be a ladies doubles
5th set to be a gents doubles
6th set to be a ladies doubles
7th & 8th sets to be mixed doubles.
VISITING team to nominate the players in the 7th set.
To change order of sets both captains must agree.
MATCH POINTS
10 points for each match made up as follows:-
2 points to the team winning the match.
1 point to each team if a winner is not determined.
1 point to a team for each set won.
½ point to each team for each incomplete or unplayed set.
5 points to each team for an unplayed match.
A team winning a match by forfeit shall receive all the points allocated for that match.
FORFEITS
If either team is unable to name a pair or to match a pair named by the opposing team the team in default must forfeit that set.
The team receiving the forfeit must nominate the players they were prepared to play for that set from their players available at that time.
Should a team withdraw during the competition before the first round of the competition has been completed all points for & against shall be deleted. During the second half of the competition all points for & against shall be deleted for the second half only. First round points to stand.
Should a team forfeit twice on the home court or three times, overall, it shall be debarred from further competition play & all points treated in accordance with above rule . The captain of a team forfeiting a match shall notify the opposing team as early as possible.
TENNIS BALLS
Only tennis balls approved by T.N.S.W. may be used.
In preliminary rounds the home team shall provide 3 new balls for each match.
POSTPONEMENTS & UNPLAYED MATCHES
If a match is stopped due to inclement weather before a decision is reached, teams must remain for 30 minutes & resume play from the last completed point if court is playable.
If after a period of 30 minutes has elapsed and the court is unplayable the remaining points for the match are to be shared.
In the event of an electrical storm play must cease when the interval between the lightning flash and the following thunderclap is 30 seconds or less. Play may resume when both captains agree, after consulting their team members, that the danger of the storm has passed.
Postponed matches may be played at any mutually convenient time up to end of the preliminary rounds, after which date they shall be arranged as the committee concerned shall deem necessary. No postponement s will be permitted except with special permission of the committee e.g. bereavement.
The match shall be declared unplayed if satisfied the ground authorities had, on the day of the match, declared the court unfit for play.
Should the Heat Index at the court, to be read in the shade or shed at least one metre from the ground, reach 35 during the playing period of the match, play must cease immediately and remaining points, except for semis and finals matches, shall be shared. In semis and finals play to be suspended immediately and the match is to be continued from the point of cessation, on a later date, as scheduled by the committee.
REPLAYING
The committee may order any match to be re-contested, & to name a time & court for playing such a match.
STARTING TIME
Saturday afternoon mixed to commence at 1.00pm. Refer to rule 49
FINISHING TIME
Unless both captains agree to cease play due to failing light, then play must continue for 10 minutes after sunset time or 6pm as appropriate. Any game at that time is to be completed. Sunset times shall be published on the competition fixture sheet / Bulletin where applicable.
UNABLE TO START
Teams are required to enter the court at 1pm, have a 5 minute hit-up and then commence the match. If a lady and a gent are present from a team they must commence the first set even if they are not the intended pairing. If a team does not have a pair on the court by 1.05pm then the late team shall forfeit the hit-up time. If no pair is present by 1.15pm then the late team shall be deemed to have lost the first set.
At further intervals of 5 minutes subsequent sets shall be deemed to have been lost, until 35 minutes after the nominated starting time, when the match shall be deemed lost by forfeit.
The time for the finish of one set & the commencement of the next set shall not be more than 2 minutes.
A team not having a pair on the court ready to commence the set at the end of 2 minutes will be deemed to have forfeited the set, provided that the team claiming the forfeit has given at least 30 seconds warning of its intention to claim the set. Where both teams are at fault no points or games will be allocated for that set.
There are to be no hit ups before the commencement of any set where each of the players involved have played at least one set previously.
ELIGIBILITY OF RESERVES & SUBSTITUTES
A player may be borrowed by any one team in the same grade three times only.
A player may be borrowed by any one team from a lower grade three only.
A maximum of 2 players only can be borrowed per match by any one team except for semi finals and finals.
REGISTERING RESERVES & SUBSTITUTES
Application to register a reserve must be on the form provided& submitted to the competition secretary by 7.00pm on the Monday after the match in which the reserve played. Any team not complying with this rule shall forfeit the sets only in which that player played.
If an application for a reserve registration is not approved by the committee, the team shall forfeit the sets in which that player played.
Any decision by the committee regarding non approval or conditions of approval to a reserve registration must be notified to the team making the application within 3 days of such decision being made.
A team supplying insufficient or incorrect information on the reserve registration form shall forfeit the match in which that player played& the team may be disqualified from the competition.
A person found guilty of knowingly permitting a person to play any portion of a match under a false name shall be disqualified for any period determined by the committee.
RESERVES & SUBSTITUTES DURING A MATCH
In the event of a player becoming incapacitated during the playing of a match the set in which that player is competing shall be forfeited but a substitute player may be used in any remaining sets replacing the incapacitated player.
Notification of a substitute playing for an incapacitated player must be in writing & reach the competition secretary by 7.00pm on the Monday after the match in which the substitute played. If not the substitutes sets will be forfeited.
RESERVES & SUBSTITUES IN UNFINISHED MATCHES
In unfinished FINALS matches a substitute player may be permitted to substitute for a player who is unable to play provided a written reason is made to the committee by 7.00pm on the Monday after the match & provided the application is approved. This substitute player shall not be permitted to play in a previously incomplete set.
COURT CONDITION & EQUIPMENT
All courts shall be subject to the approval of the committee& must be kept in good order & properly equipped.
For all competition matches the centre of the net shall be held at the regulation height of 914 mm by a firmly secured strap passing over the top of the net which is not to be more than 50mm wide & white in colour.
COURT USE BY ASSOCIATIONS
Teams participating in finals & semi finals, must make their court available until the completion of the finals in all divisions for the respective competition unless previous arrangements have been confirmed in writing with the court owner & the committee.
The committee shall have the right to use the court of any affiliated team for the respective competition entered for. Teams nominate their home court for the respective competition. If home court is unplayable due to wet weather then the match is a wet match. The committee has the right to move a match to another location for safety/ tournaments/ other reasons.
DISPUTES
Teams or members involved in a dispute in relation to these competition rules may lodge a protest to the appropriate committee for consideration
All protests must be lodged in writing with the committee secretary within three (3) days of the event.
Teams or members who consider that the ruling given by the appropriate committee is contrary to these competition rules or can introduce new information, may appeal to the appeals committee whose decision in all cases shall be final.
All appeals to the appeals committee must be lodged in writing, through the General Secretary, to the PRESIDENT of the association concerned within three (3) days of the decision made by the original committee accompanied by a deposit of $10-00 which shall be forfeited if the appeal is disallowed.
The appeals committee shall consist of each combined association’s President or his or her representative.
RESERVE POOL
All players desirous of playing in the pool of reserves must submit their name, together with phone number and details of highest grade played to the committee. This may be done at any time before or during the competition.
The pool fee is to be paid to the respective associations. The responsibility of payment shall rest with the team captain for whom the pool player plays his/her first match. Non-payment shall result in loss of all sets played by the pool player.
A player may not join the pool if he/she is registered with a team in a current competition unless a written release is obtained from the team secretary concerned.
All pool players names to be placed on/with the competition draw or in association’s “bulletins”, listing phone numbers and the lowest grade they may play. These players are to be contacted directly by team secretaries.
Any player who substitutes in a grade lower than graded, without committee sanction, shall forfeit all sets.
Players phone details may be published in local bulletins/bulletin boards but may not be published on the internet due to privacy policy

In the event of a player becoming incapacitated during the playing of a match the set in which that player is competing shall be forfeited but a substitute player may be used in any remaining sets replacing the incapacitated player.
Notification of a substitute playing for an incapacitated player must be in writing & reach the competition secretary by 7.00pm on the Monday after the match in which the substitute played. If not the substitutes sets will be forfeited.
RESERVES & SUBSTITUES IN UNFINISHED MATCHES
In unfinished FINALS matches a substitute player may be permitted to substitute for a player who is unable to play provided a written reason is made to the committee by 7.00pm on the Monday after the match & provided the application is approved. This substitute player shall not be permitted to play in a previously incomplete set.
COURT CONDITION & EQUIPMENT
All courts shall be subject to the approval of the committee& must be kept in good order & properly equipped.
For all competition matches the centre of the net shall be held at the regulation height of 914 mm by a firmly secured strap passing over the top of the net which is not to be more than 50mm wide & white in colour.
COURT USE BY ASSOCIATIONS
Teams participating in finals & semi finals, must make their court available until the completion of the finals in all divisions for the respective competition unless previous arrangements have been confirmed in writing with the court owner & the committee.
The committee shall have the right to use the court of any affiliated team for the respective competition entered for. Teams nominate their home court for the respective competition. If home court is unplayable due to wet weather then the match is a wet match. The committee has the right to move a match to another location for safety/ tournaments/ other reasons.
DISPUTES
Teams or members involved in a dispute in relation to these competition rules may lodge a protest to the appropriate committee for consideration
All protests must be lodged in writing with the committee secretary within three (3) days of the event.
Teams or members who consider that the ruling given by the appropriate committee is contrary to these competition rules or can introduce new information, may appeal to the appeals committee whose decision in all cases shall be final.
All appeals to the appeals committee must be lodged in writing, through the General Secretary, to the PRESIDENT of the association concerned within three (3) days of the decision made by the original committee accompanied by a deposit of $10-00 which shall be forfeited if the appeal is disallowed.
The appeals committee shall consist of each combined association’s President or his or her representative.
RESERVE POOL
All players desirous of playing in the pool of reserves must submit their name, together with phone number and details of highest grade played to the committee. This may be done at any time before or during the competition.
The pool fee is to be paid to the respective associations. The responsibility of payment shall rest with the team captain for whom the pool player plays his/her first match. Non-payment shall result in loss of all sets played by the pool player.
A player may not join the pool if he/she is registered with a team in a current competition unless a written release is obtained from the team secretary concerned.
All pool players names to be placed on/with the competition draw or in association’s “bulletins”, listing phone numbers and the lowest grade they may play. These players are to be contacted directly by team secretaries.
Any player who substitutes in a grade lower than graded, without committee sanction, shall forfeit all sets.
Players phone details may be published in local bulletins/bulletin boards but may not be published on the internet due to privacy policy
